1) My biggest weakness within this draft is capturing my readers’ attention. I feel as though when It comes to writing summaries or analyzations I feel as though my writing can be boring. And since we can’t use outside sources or quotes I feel like my draft is stuck and can use some sort of elevation may be in like the language I use or the analogies. I also am afraid that I’m using too many quotes from Freud and Gilman because my professor told us we have to use only 1-2 quotes and I feel as though my paper in entirety includes about 4-6 quotes. I’m having problems continuing with my draft I feel like another body paragraph can be included but I dont know what else to write about I feel like I ran out of thoughts and ideas and just need another perspective and insight on what someone else thinks about my first draft.
2) My favorite part of Sonny’s Blues is how Sonny left NYC to join the army so that he could quit using drugs. Honestly, that means that Sonny tried to get away from his heroin addiction and that means a lot for an addict and it takes a lot to take that step. This part of the story supports Baldwin’s critique of society because he implies that society is cruel and harsh and life can be dark at times seeing as racism is alive and people are endlessly struggling. Sonny needing to join the army and risk his life so that in a way he could extend his life by quitting drugs showcases the drug epidemic in NYC.
-he’s stuck on drugs
-thinks he has to join the war to quit
-drugs risk your life but so does war
-he has no father figure in his life
-only has a brother who acts and represents the father figure in his life whom he identifies as
3) I chose a rose for Emily to analyze for my Exploratory essay because I found it very interesting when I first read it I never expected it to end like it did and I want to analyze the reasons why Emily acted on her impulses and why she even had them I wanna find out why she was so socially isolated.
